Below is a few short paragraphs about me and who I am. I believe that persons personality is part of what you hire, so this is my way of introducing myself as a person since all you know about me so far is that I am a fabulous writer.
Growing up I was an avid reader which, fortunately or unfortunately, grew out of a punishment from my mother. Ever the creative parent she would make me read and give her a book report whenever my teacher complained that I was too chatty in class. This was often enough to get me into the habit of reading and progressed into a hobby. While most of my friends were reading the Sweet Valley High series I was reading Dean Koontz novels. I spent so much of my life reading Dean that by the time I was accepted into a Creative Writing program I was told by my counselor to stop reading his novels. She explained that Dean would be a bad influence on me and that while my poor professors where trying to educate me and teach me to use my own voice in my writing, she was sure Dean would stick his nose in once in a while and mix things up more than necessary. In other words, he would be a bad influence on me.
While pursuing my Bachelor's of Arts I became a staff writer for Surfside Hockey News, I was a guest writer for The Highlander (the university paper) and I frequently write copy for a few of the clubs and other organizations. Since I couldn't read my favorite novels anymore I figured I'd get a jump start on my career. What else was I to do in college?
As a student in the Creative Writing program I was taught by authors such as Judy Kronenfeld, Gary Soto, Derek McKown, Dwight Yates and Susan Straight. By the summer of 2002 I graduated from the University of California Riverside with a Bachelor's of Arts in Creative Writing. Insert proud mother smiling here.
Now, I am a brilliant writer who can create anything you need for any purpose you need. My work is my proof. The samples page demonstrates some of my eclectic experience. I have taken contract positions for large companies such as Airgas Rutland Tool (now Rutland Tool) and the online version of the Yellowpages along with taking smaller projects from online magazines, small businesses and individual people. As my samples page shows, I have done anything and everything when it came to gaining writing and editing experience. The most important thing I have learned is to listen to my client to determine what they want while at the same time giving them my professional input. Nothing’s uglier than a pushy writer trying to do it their own way. Feel free to browse my site and contact me with your thoughts and questions. Even if you don’t have a project under way and you just want to introduce yourself please do so.
